On October 10th, the press conference for the report of “2012 Competitiveness Ranking of China’s Cities – City Ranking from Listed Companies’ Perspective” was successfully held by Donghai Securities, College of Business (COB), SUFE and SUFE Financial Laboratory jointly at Wisdom Building, in North Zhongshan No.1 Road Campus of SUFE. Reporters from more than 30 public media, such as CBN, Shanghai Securities News, JF Daily, etc., came to the scene of the conference.
Mr. Bao Qing, chief researcher at Donghai Securities Research Institute (DSRI), Mr. Xu Yang, director of macro-strategy at DSRI, Mr. Liu Jianfeng, researcher at DSRI, Prof. Wang Shaofei, Director of Case Center at COB, SUFE, and Dr. Xie Fei, Deputy Director of SUFE Financial Laboratory attended the press conference.
“The birth and release of the Ranking is another milestone achievement for COB, SUFE in its efforts to connect with the corporate world”, said Prof. Wang Shaogfei, “SUFE will further cooperate with its partners to do the rankings better”. Mr. Bao Qing from Donghai Securities pointed out that the release of the report created two “first time” in domestic city ranking research. It is the first time that a financial institution cooperates with an academic institution to release city rankings and it is the first time to measure cities’ competitiveness from the perspective of listed companies.
Mr. Liu Jianfeng from Donghai Securities then released the report. The report indicated that the eastern coastal cities had obvious competition advantages in terms of corporate competitiveness, while cities in the central and western regions had more advantages in terms of growth competitiveness. The report also released the competitiveness ranking of innovative enterprises and private capital activity, competitiveness ranking of social benefits, growth competitiveness ranking, profit-earning competitiveness ranking, scale competitiveness ranking and overall competitiveness ranking.
The media showed keen interest in the rankings released and asked questions about the relation of the rankings and local government’s policy orientation, the economic transition trends indicated by the rankings, Shanghai’s place in the ranking, etc., and had in-depth idea exchange and discussion with the guests.

The 2012 Competitiveness Ranking of China’s Cities – Overall Competitiveness Ranking is listed as follows:
Top ten provincial administrative regions in terms of overall competitiveness are (in order): Beijing Municipality, Guangdong Province, Shanghai Municipality, Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province, Jiangsu Province, Shandong Province, Sichuan Province, Anhui Province and Hunan Province.
Top ten administrative cities in terms of overall competitiveness are (in order): Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Ningbo, Xiamen, Changsha, Chengdu, Suzhou and Nanjing.
