On July 5th, 2012, College of Business, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (hereinafter referred as COB, SUFE) received the formal notification letter from Association of MBAs (AMBA) to confirm that the accreditation of SUFE’s full-time MBA, part-time MBA and Executive MBA programs has been endorsed by the Association’s International Accreditation Advisory Board (IAAB). The accreditation has been awarded for a period of five years, the maximum period allowed under the current review cycle. It marks that COB’s efforts in applying for the AMBA accreditation over the past one and a half years have concluded with a full success.
From April 22nd to 24th, 2012, the AMBA assessment panel, chaired by Professor Andrew Lock, the former Dean of Business School of Leeds University, carried out a three-day on-site assessment visit to SUFE. The other members of the assessment panel include Professor Robert Dixon, Dean of Business School, Durham University; Professor Zhongming Wang, AMBA Chief Representative in China and former Executive Dean of School of Management, Zhejiang University; Ms. Sharon Bamford, AMBA Chief Executive; and Mr. George Ilive, AMBA Accreditation Services Manager.
During the three-day assessment visit, the panel members conducted an in-depth research to the documentation listed in the base room, held talks with SUFE President, COB Dean and Associate Deans and program directors, had meetings respectively with representatives of MBA/EMBA faculty, students, alumni and employers, and visited the teaching facilities in campus, including the Library, Financial Laboratory, Boss Building, etc. After a detailed assessment in various aspects, the panel gave a high recognition on the quality of SUFE’s MBA and EMBA programs, regarded the self-audit documentation as concise and informative and highly commended the efforts made by the COB staff in the process of accreditation. Therefore, the panel decided to recommend a full-term accreditation to SUFE’s MBA and EMBA programs and offered suggestions to COB’s further development.
AMBA, together with EQUIS and AACSB, are regarded as the three most authoritative international accreditation systems on business education. The AMBA accreditation will be of key significance to promote achieving the goals of “building SUFE into a modernized, internationalized and informationized university”, to learn the advanced educational concepts and practices in the world and to improve COB’s own educational system so as to build COB, SUFE into a first-class business school up to international level.
