2022 Conference of the changes of world economic structure and China's opening-up was successfully held

Recently, the 2022 online Conference of the changes of world economic structure and China's opening-up, co-sponsored by the “Open Trade and Finance” Innovation Team of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and the International Finance Committee of the Shanghai Institute of World Economicswas successfully held.


The conference invited 10 experts from the top-ranked universities in China, whichinclude Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Nankai University, to deliver keynote speeches. More than 400 academic people attended the conference. Through high-standard, constructive, and professional interactive lectures offered in-depth analysis and practical policy recommendations on the current world economic and political state.as the lectures discussed the issues related to China's opening up to the outside world, it also assist scholars working in the field of international economics to produce scholarly academic papers.

The meeting held on May 6 was chaired by Professor Jin Yuying, Director of Research and Development Department of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Associate Professor Nie Guangyu, Principal Expert of the Innovation Team of "Open Trade and Finance" of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Speeches were delivered by Professor Wei Hang, Executive Vice Dean of the Business School of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Professor Luo Changyuan, President of the Shanghai Institute of World Economics. The professors pointed out that the present international situation is rapidly changing. Global value chains, industrial and, supply chains, and so on are constantly changing. The conference is supportive to the discussion of the world economy and international trade, as well as the continuous development  of the world economy with associated disciplines.

On the morning of May 6, three scholars offered their talks, which vividly introduced the development trend of the world and Chinese economy under new development pattern.


Lecture 1: New Pattern of globalization and competition of rules

At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Sheng Bin, Dean of the Economics Department of Nankai University, delivered a keynote speech on the changing situation of globalization.

Lecture 2: Digital Economy and international trade

Professor Hong Junjie, Vice President of Beijing University of International Business and Economics, gave a speech on digital economy and trade in the new era.

Lecture 3: China's economy under the new development pattern

Professor Yu Miaojie, Secretary of the Party Committee of the National Development Research Institute of Peking University, offered a keynote speech on China's economy under the new development pattern.

On the afternoon of May 6, four scholars presented their research findings on international trade, and made an in-depth discussion among teachers and students.


Lecture 4:Soybeans or Planes: Political Power of US Businesses and China’s Trade Retaliation

Professor Ma Hong from Tsinghua University shared his research work on “the impact of multinational companies on the trade policies of host countries.”

Lecture 5:Quality and the Unequal Gains from Tariff Liberalizatio

Showing the Chinese auto market as an example, Professor Dai Mi from Beijing Normal University, explored the impact of free trade on consumer welfare through product quality and the regional distribution ecosystem.

Lecture 6:Variable Markup, Multi-Product Firms and Attribute-Based Trade Policy: An Investigation of China automobile Industry

In this paper, Wang Yongjin, Professor of Nankai University analyzed how to impose maximum tariffs on oligopolistic and multiproduct industries

Lecture 7:The Investigation Will be Back, Probably

In this paper, Li Zhiyuan, Professor of the Fudan University pointed out that once an exporter esperience  an anti-dumping investigation, even if such an investigation is unsuccessful, the parallel   companies will face more anti-dumping investigations in the future.

The morning session on May 7 was chaired by Professor Feng Ling, Director of the International Finance Committee of the Shanghai World Economic Institute.  Three scholars in total reported the results of their researches and participated in the heated discussion with teachers and students.


Lecture 8: Impact of external demand, structural transformation and construction of domestic large market -- research based on dynamic quantitative spatial equilibrium model

Professor Chen Binkai, President of the Dof Economics from the Central University of Finance and Economics, analyzed five trends in China's macro economy pre- and post-recession experienced in 2008 .

Lecture 9: cross-border capital flows, financial frictions and reserve policy divergence

In this article, Professor Mei Dongzhou from the Central University of Finance and Economics compared the expenditure requirements of reserve by commercial banks in  emerging economies.

Professor Luo Zhi from Wuhan University shared how the access of foreign banks has affected the launching of banking branches.
