The Qualification Contest in East-China region forthe Eighth China Management Case Competition was held at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics

The Qualification Contest in the East-China region for the Eighth China Management Case Competition was recently held at Haosheng Hotel of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. After strong competition, the second team from East China University of Science and Technology and the first team from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE)entered the finals of the Eighth China Management Case Competition, which will take place at the Communication University of China this September.

The competition was sponsored by Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and jointly organized by the National Supervisory Committee for Graduate Education in Business Administration, the China Management Case Sharing Center and the Management Case Research Committee of the China Management Modernization Research Association. Professor Cheng Liwei from the Dalian University of Technology, Professor Wang Shiliang from Zhejiang University, Professor Zhang Shuang from Southwest University of Science and Technology, Professor Hu Yuchen from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, and Li Min, Chairman of Panda Financial Holdings Ltd. acted as the judges in the competition.

Judges


Wei Hang, Executive Associate Dean of SUFE College of Business , gave a speech at the opening ceremony. He gave a brief introduction about the College of Business of SUFE and the MBA program, and expressed a warm welcome to the judges, participating faculty members, students and guests, and wished the participating teams could develop their business practice ability and improve their ability to make comprehensive analysis and decision-making through team work and collaborative innovation.

A total of 21 teams from 11 universities participated in the competition, including: East China University of Science and Technology, East China Normal University, Hangzhou University of Electric Technology, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, School of Management of Shanghai University, Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai International Studies University, Tongji University, Zhejiang Business University, Zhejiang University of Technology and Zhejiang University of Science and Technology (listed in alphabetical order).

At the competition


The competition case was sent to the participating teams 60 hours ahead of time, as per competition guidelines. The case of this year’s competition is “The industrial online platform of the important machine for the country “shield construction machine”-the digital innovation path of China railway industrial service”. Teams worked hard and submitted their  PPT reports for a blind test on the evening of 24th August, and drew lots on the 25th for the onsite contest. Each team effectively used various resources such as data, charts, and theories to fully demonstrate their viewpoints and carried out an intense debate through case analysis, on-the-spot presentationand answering questions posted by the audience and judges. Their careful logical analyses and ingenious answers to questionswon the applause of the audience and the judges.

After a whole day of exciting competition on the 25th August, the judges gave the scores which combined with the results of the blind test, taking into account of the  logics of problem identification and analysis, the innovation and effectiveness of problem-solving methods, the accuracy of information and data analysis, the professionalism and responsiveness of on-the-spot , and on-the-spot performance, to select the winning teams and individuals.

The China Management Case Competition, which has been held annually since 2013, aims to improve the analytical and decision-making abilities of MBA students through the analysis and discussion of social and economic cases and simulations of real-life business competitions. At the same time, the competition aims to promote the development of China’s business administration education, as well as test case teaching results and improve the exchanges and collaboration among business schools. At present, the China Management Case Competition has been successfully held for seven years. The competition does not only help students pay more attention to the combination of theory and practice but improves their comprehensive quality. The case competition has been well-accepted by the industry as a large-scale, standardized, and high-level professional competition.
